Riding + Dogs

I had off on Friday and the weather couldn't have been nicer. So I tacked up the pony and off we went. I wanted to go ride out to the paint ball place, so we got near it but I didn't want to get to close since I wasn't sure of the set up of the place and the hours it was open.

Along the way we found a little grass patch, so of course I had to stop and Leg munch for a few. :)

It seemed to perk her up and we continued on our ride.

The area we rode around.

And a small dog update:
Howie and Mitchell are getting along great. Mitchell is showing/teaching Howie how to play and just be a pup, since he seems very standoffish towards any kind of toy or "game".

I was glad to see them playing together yesterday evening.

Pictures

And this is what it's all about! The tri-color Basset is my 1yr old boy, Mitchell. He and Howie (Chachito) hit it off great this afternoon (Tuesday). I'd like to think the looks Howie was giving me as I was taking pictures of them, were all saying "THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED."

The following three pictures are from when I picked him up from the shelter.

The following three are from Tuesday.

Adopted a dog today

I wrote this all on Sunday. I forgot to post about it, so please just back date.

I truly think this little dog was meant to be mine. Short story...

Friday at work, one of my favorite customers came in, her and I got to chatting about good coffee houses and she was telling me of one she loves in Vegas and out of no where I blurted out "I'll be in Vegas on Sunday, maybe I'll check it out". I paused, looked at her in shock and said "I have no idea where that came from, I have no reason to be in Vegas on Sunday... but maybe I'll now make a day trip of it???" We both just laughed it off.

So yesterday a friend of mine whom I ride with, Debi, had posted on facebook going on and on about a little pit bull she had just adopted from a shelter out in Vegas. I had commented on the picture of the dog that she adopted. A few minutes later she sends me a PM saying how she saw a young lemon and white basset hound there, and he seemed like a real sweetie. At first I was like "yeah, whatever, just another dog in a shelter..." till she sent me his adoption page then my heart broke as I couldn't understand why someone would surrender a 6 month old basset hound pup and to a high rate kill shelter. I looked at his intake day and then yesterdays date and just prayed that he'd still be there come morning. It was to late to make the 60mile drive Vegas since the shelter would be closed by the time I got there. So I got up early this morning and made the drive. The workers were pretty shocked that I knew his info off the top of my head and that I wasn't interested in looking at any other dogs but only him. Got to his kennel and I was welcomed with lots of tail whacks and licks. I took him out for a bit in to one of the "play areas" and he was just so happy to be out, to stretch his little legs, play, cuddle, and oh and get many belly rubs. A few others commented how cute he was. I went on to tell them that I had a 1 year old basset at home and just love the breed.

So after spending an hour with him, I filled out adoption papers on him and will be picking him up tomorrow evening after he gets fixed.

I sadly didn't get any photos of him there as I was nothing but smiles and giggling at his silly antics.

Here is his shelter photo for now. I'll take some of him tomorrow for sure.

And the point of the story is... I guess I some how "knew" that I was going to be in Vegas today on Friday.

OH and he will need a name!

I'll post an update tomorrow.

SLAUGHTER... IT HAS TO STOP!

It isn't fair. We take our hard workers to auction, let them get chopped up, canabilised.

We have to stop it.

Beware, graphic pictures below.

They work hard for us.

Then end up in places like this auction

Strangers running their grubby hands over them

Put into kill lots, waiting for their death

Slowly cut up into little pieces

Until it is just a few bones

And as to those who leave their old mates in the paddock to fend for themselves
Did this reliable partner really deserve this ending?

My little runaway

I love coming home from work, not because I'm off of work for the rest of the day BUT I get to come home to my pets. Yesterday Snickers shocked me with how hyper she was. She is 15/16 years old now and doesn't get around like she used to... Yesterday she shocked me! I got out of my car and she came up to me like she normally does then out of no where she took out running and didn't stop for about 7 minutes. I just had to take video of it since like I said she is very old and some days I wonder about her quality of life. Just happy to see she felt good yesterday!

Dry Lake

Sorry no helmet cam footage as I didn't adjust it correctly, so I ended up with a lot of sky, sun, and mountain videos.... and watching them made me motion sick, so lesson learned!

But I did grab a still shot from one video... I guess I looked down for a second and it came out ok.

Anyways I rode Legacy down to the dry lake bed by my house. I've only ever been down there once before today and figured it would be nice to check it out again. I forget just how BIG it really is. On Google Maps it doesn't look -all that big- BUT after riding down to it and in it which seemed like a forever ride.... I'm now taken back with how big it really is. And here I thought I actually got somewhere out there. HA I was so wrong!

Goat

So I ate goat for the first time yesterday. At first I was pretty hesitant of it due to the goat living in my yard for the past few months, but after the fact, I gave it a chance and I will say that it was pretty darn tasty! We had some friends over and all seemed to really enjoy it, including my dogs as they got the bits we weren't about to eat/cook. Mitchell got 3 goat legs, and Snickers got a got leg, goat heart, and goat tail as she doesn't have many teeth left, so it's hard on her to eat bones and such.

So all in all, I will say a home raised goat is yummy and I would try it again! Eric and I are thinking of getting some female goats and learning how to milk them to make milk and cheese. Yum yum!

Canadian slaughterhouses refuse US horses

I am really afraid for the horses going to plants in the immediate future... they may suffer a worse fate now, getting hauled all over the damned country waiting to die. Why can't we just have our own regulated plants back... that would be better than this mess and it would create more jobs.

Rain

It has rained for over 24 hours straight out here. Everything is flooded. Glad I didn't redo my mares pen as I was planning on doing so last Sunday but put it off this this weekend. All that dirt and gravel would have just been washed away.

Saddle Woes

I can not for the life of me find a saddle that A. Fits my mare B. Fits me C. Is correctly made!

For the past year I have been saddle searching. I found a saddle last January that I bought fitted to my mare. It fits her, is made decent but it doesn't fit me as much as I wish it would.

I have bought and sent so many saddles back in this last year that it is just sick at the amount I have wasted on shipping alone.

My CTK endurance saddle that I've been living with for the past months has grown old on me with it not fitting me. So I figured I would just buy another CTK saddle only this time a bigger seat and western style. Should be fine right? WRONG!

Yesterday I get the saddle that I bought from CTK Saddlery and I'm just horrified! The saddle is A. To big for me B. Doesn't fit me mare C. Is rusty and so dried out that the leather is like cardboard.

I AM PISSED! I wrote the seller a nasty email and demanded to send it back for a refund.
THIS IS NOT A NEW SADDLE BY ANY MEANS!

WTF?! How could anyone pass this saddle off as "new"...

Oh well. I should just stick to what I have now, but damn it! I'm a hard head!

Bathroom catastrophe

Well now I know why my electric bill has been through the roof for the past month or two. Looks like I'm going to need a whole new bathroom after this shit is done. FUDGE!

Apparently the shower has decided that it needs to wash the floor... with hot water but the floor isn't wet, it's just sunk in and has caused a fun house effect. I could hear water running down the wall in the hall way and the closet has turned into a sauna.

Oh and it all makes sense now, as to why we can't take a shower that has hot water for more then 5 minutes.

Thank god for good friends who know the handyman trade because if not, I'm sure I would still be sitting in a house that was slowly flooding out underneath. Can't complain to pay a friend $15 for him to come over, pull part of the wall out and find the source of where the water was coming from and put a valve on it, so we could turn it off. Yes it is just a minor fix BUT now I'll need to gut the entire bathroom. I guess this is what I get for saying how much I could not stand the wall paper in that room. LOL

Oh well. Life goes on. :)

Updated Life. HA!

Holy cow am I bad at blogging! April was my last update... wow.

Sooooo much stuff has happened since then. Where to start?

Well in summery I will write this, since writing 5 months worth of stuff would be a little silly and I would probably be sitting here for a few days.

So in the last five months, what has Ali been up to you ask...

Well a lot of things but mainly working, drinking way way to much coffee, and riding everywhere that I can get Legacy & I, safely of course.

I've been working 6 days a week for some time now, my only day off is Sunday and in that tiny 24 hour period I cram a weeks worth of stuff in to it.

So to sum it all up, I will try to post a few pictures and or videos from the past however many months it has been.....

ON TOP OF THE WORLD

(my riding arena)

April:
I FOUND OLD BAY!!! (In Walmart of all places out here)

On April 23rd, we had a HUGE tanker type truck some how manage to mix up my address with the people behind us who too have the same address, just live on a different street name... at 9pm at night. Why were they delivering gravel at 9pm at night I will never know, but it almost played like a horror movie. My cats wigged out so I went to see what they all were freaking out about, just to hear a heavy duty motor. I peeked out the window just to see a bunch of lights on an 18 wheeler truck IN MY YARD. I ran and woke Eric up wondering WTF was going on. Walked around outside for a few minutes wondering where the driver was, since the drivers door was open but no one was any where around. I finally called the # on the truck and asked why they were in my yard... just to see the driver running back toward my house from around the corner yelling that he had the wrong house. *shakes head* I almost for a few tons of free gravel.
